Marantz PM6005 review

 

 

Marantz je proizvođač i distributer visoko kvalitetne audio opreme. Prvi proizvod je projektovao i napravio Saul B. Marantz u Kew Gardens-u, New York. U to vreme, kompanija je imala veliki uticaj na razvoj Hi Fi audio sistema, obraćajući pažnju na svaki detalj pri projektovanju i konstruisanju. Sredinom 1980-ih dok je bio pod rukovods-tvom Philips-a (pionira u CD tehnologiji), Marantz je među prvima pravio CD plejere koji su jako dobro prihvaćeni od strane zadovoljnih potrošača i kritičara.        Danas, Marantz nastavlja da pravi komponente koje su u samom vrhu Hi Fi ponude na tržištu. The high current power supply features a high capacity shielded toroidal power transformer that provides high instantaneous burst current, essential when driving lower impedance speaker loads. The power supply also features large high current storage capacitors, and high current high speed Shottky Barrier Diodes for the cleanest power characteristics. The digital audio circuitry is housed in its own shielded subsection to eliminate interference with the analog audio circuit blocks. Multiple analog inputs include a dedicated phono input for MM turntables, and there are optical and coaxial digital audio inputs. The PM6005 is rated at 45 watts per channel (8 ohms) and 60 watts per channel (4 ohms).

Marantz HDAM Technology
Our exclusive HDAM technology features precision discrete components that provide wide dynamic range with low distortion, outperforming conventional op-amp integrated circuit chips. HDAM modules are used in the digital audio converter stages as well as the critical analog audio stage.

Fully Discrete High Current Output Stages
Equipped with multiple high current wide range power transistors, the PM6005 features the ability to handle low impedance speakers, and is rated at 45 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 60 watts per channel into 4 ohms. The output stages feature current feedback (originated by Marantz) instead of voltage feedback, for the lowest distortion and highest stability.

High Current Power Supply
Featuring a high current high capacity shielded toroidal power transformer, the power supply section also employs high current high speed Shottky Barrier Diodes, along with high current storage capacitors that together provide wide dynamic range along with low impedance drive capability.

 

Reference Quality D/A Conversion
Equipped with the reference class CS4398 24 bit/192 kHz D/A converter technology, the PM6005 also employs our proprietary HDAM discrete modules in the critical I/V conversion stage. The digital audio section is housed in a shielded compartment to prevent interference with the analog audio circuit blocks.

Fully Discrete Headphone Amplifier

Source Direct Mode
The Source Direct function bypasses unneeded circuit stages (such as the tone controls) for the most direct audio path from input to output.

A/B Speaker Select; Bi-Wiring

Remote input and output terminals let you connect the PM6005 to other Marantz components, such as the matching CD6005 CD player, allowing you to place the PM6005 out of sight (such as in a cabinet) yet still providing full remote control capabilities. The IR (infrared) flasher port lets you connect the PM6005 to an external system remote controller.

Technology

A-B

Speaker A/B for the connection of two pair of speakers at the same time. They can run single as A or B, but as well as A+B at the same time.

Current Feedback

Current Feedback amplification is a well known, Marantz’ original circuit technology. The Current Feedback amplifier technology fits perfectly with the high requirements set for Super Audio software providing wide-bandwidth, high-speed reproduction. The impedance at the Current Feedback point is limited resulting in a very low phase shift. Marantz receivers and amplifiers equipped with Current Feedback can keep the phase compensation via Negative FeedBack (NFB) to a minimum, resulting in high through-rate, excellent transient response and superb sonic transparency for the full bandwidth. Unlike conventional Voltage Feedback amplification, the Current Feedback amplification makes the power amplifier in-sensitive to difficult loudspeaker loads.

Customized Components

On paper an electrical component might look excellent but the result may fall short of the combined design expectations. Marantz selects the appropriate components for the specific design application. In some cases it’s simply not possible to use standard components that meet the high Marantz standards. These components will then be specially made for Marantz in close cooperation with the Marantz engineers.

D-Bus

To optimize equipment in terms of ease of use, Marantz has designed the D-Bus system. Received remote control commands are communicated via this bus. This enables equipment without IR-receiver like tuners or hidden system together with an external IR eye to be controlled via the bypacked Marantz System Remote Controller.

Shottky Diodes

A Shottky diode is a special type of diode with a very low forward-voltage drop compared to normal diodes. This lower voltage drop translates into higher system efficiency. Shottky diodes have very fast signal handling, can easily stay higher temperatures and are sensitive very low voltages.

Symmetrical Circuit Layout

To achieve the best possible sonic performance, signal paths need to be short, direct and mirror imaged. The construction of our circuitry provides improved stereo imaging by ensuring close to perfect symmetry between right and left channel layout.

Toroidal Transformer

Toroidal transformer has several advantages over a normal EI core transformer. It is very efficient and therefore delivers more power compared to the same size of an EI core transformer. In addition, due to its shape, the electromagnetic radiation and the mechanical vibration are extremely low all ending in a better sound quality.
